COTE’S GETAWAY GUIDE TO THE ULTIMATE ISLAND DESTINATION
The Maldives are MAGIC.
No if’s, and’s or but’s about it. They are hands down my favourite place I have ever visited and the first place that comes to mind when someone asks me for a trip recommendation. I loved being there so much, I literally cried when we left.*
I think that was the only time on our whole trip I wasn’t completely euphoric. Between the white sand beaches, swaying palm trees, cerulean water, and reef teeming with fish, I felt like I had either found the keys to heaven or walked straight into a screensaver. I was equally happy with either option. Awestruck, I just kept muttering, “This isn’t real life.”
Days there were perfection. A touch of jetlag meant I woke up for the sunrise which left me utterly speechless. Then it was a quick dip in the ocean and short stroll around the island (we called it “exercise” but it took all of 30 minutes). Our intense workout was followed by a long, lazy brekkie where I ordered every kind of fruit juice imaginable. We spent the days snorkelling and exploring different parts of the flourishing reef surrounding the island or on a boat where we were literally outnumbered by the crew by double. We would then take an afternoon nap by our plunge pool and wash the salt off in an outdoor shower. Once we were freshened up, it was obviously time for refreshments. We had sundowner cocktails while watching the most ridiculously vibrant sunsets one can even fathom. It was effing idyllic. It wasn’t real life.
Here are some of my favourite photos from our stay at Park Hyatt Hadahaa. I hope they inspire a bit of wanderlust. And, if you decide to go to the Maldives, please take me with you!
*While, yes, I am a bit of a crier, it’s not my usual MO to be sobbing on a boat with fellow honeymooners looking on disapprovingly.
